Privacy Policy

Effective September 23, 2026 · Applies to the Tonight iPhone app and tonightu.netlify.app

Short version: You can use Tonight without an account. If you sign in with a school email to post, we store that email, the name you choose and what you post. We don't track your location, we don't show ads, and we don't sell or share your data for advertising. You can delete your account and everything tied to it from inside the app.

Who we are

Tonight is an independent student project that lists what's happening around the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, Florida State University, Florida A&M University, the University of South Florida, the University of Tampa, the University of North Florida, Jacksonville University, the University of West Florida, Florida Atlantic University and the University of Miami. It is not run by or affiliated with any of those universities. Questions go to teamtonightu@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

Anonymous IDWhen you open Tonight, our backend creates a random anonymous account ID for your device. It stores your “I'm going” taps, crowd/line/cover reports, votes and reports so they count once and can be rate-limited. It is not linked to your name or email.
School emailOnly if you sign in to post. We use it to verify you're a student at a supported school (UF, Santa Fe College, UCF, FSU, Tallahassee State College, FAMU, USF, the University of Tampa, UNF, Jacksonville University, UWF, FAU or the University of Miami) and to send your sign-in link or code. Your school name, not your email, shows on your posts.
Display nameThe name you choose. It appears on your flyers, comments and photos.
What you postFlyers (title, place, time, notes), comments, photos and captions, and names you type into a group vote (“What's the move?”). These are public to anyone using Tonight.
PhotosBefore upload, the app shrinks your photo and re-encodes it, which removes location and camera data. It is also checked on your phone by an open-source nudity filter. After upload it may be checked by an automated moderation service (see “Who processes data”) and by our moderators before it's shown.
Reports and blocksWhen you report content or block someone, we store what you reported or who you blocked, so moderators can act and so blocked people's content stays hidden from you.
On your deviceThe app saves your settings (campus, colour theme, sound), your sign-in session, and things you've joined or hidden, on your phone. This stays on the device.

We do not collect your location, contacts, phone number, advertising ID, health or financial information. The iPhone app contains no analytics or advertising code.

Who processes data for us

We don't sell your personal information and we don't share it with anyone for advertising or tracking.

How long we keep it

Deleting your data

In the app, open Account (top of the screen or the link at the bottom) and tap Delete my account and data. This deletes your login and, with it, your posts, comments, photos, going list, reports, votes and blocks. It can't be undone. You can also email teamtonightu@gmail.com and we'll delete it for you, or tell you what we hold about you.

Safety and moderation

Everyone can report a flyer, comment or photo with the ⚑ Report button (choosing a reason) and block another user. Anything reported by 3 different people is taken down automatically. Reports go to our moderators, who review them within 24 hours and remove content or accounts that break the Community Rules.

Age

Tonight is made for college students and is intended for people 17 and older. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
