Best Ways to Discover College Events Near You

Career fairs, concerts, games, rec classes, club nights: the best ways to discover college events near you and actually make it to them this semester.

TONIGHT blog cover: Best Ways to Discover College Events Near You

Most students only hear about the best campus events after they happen. You see the photos, then find out it was free. Colleges run a huge number of events every week, but the information is scattered. Here's how to find them, and how to turn them into a social life.

What counts as a "college event"?

More than you'd think. On a typical week, TONIGHT's campus walls include:

  • Career events: employer panels, interview workshops, career and internship fairs, often in the evening.
  • Performances: student recitals, ensemble concerts, theatre and touring shows at campus performing arts centers.
  • Sports: home games and preseason matchups, plus watch parties when the team is away.
  • Fitness: group classes at the rec center, run clubs and outdoor adventure clinics.
  • Student life: karaoke nights, game nights, movie screenings, cultural events and club fundraisers.
  • Food: food truck lunches, free food at events and student deals near campus.

1. Use a feed that's already sorted by time

University calendars are complete, but they're hard to browse on a phone, and they leave out everything off campus. TONIGHT puts campus events next to what's happening around town, sorted by when they start, with a link to the original listing on every card.

On each campus wall you can:

  • Look ahead with the time ruler, from right now to midnight.
  • Filter by category: Going Out, Social, Fitness, Food, Study, Sports, Chill, Events.
  • Tap "I'm going" to keep track of what you're planning, and add it to your calendar.

2. Bookmark your school's official calendars

These are the sources TONIGHT checks for its campus walls, and they're worth bookmarking:

SchoolWhere official events are posted
UFcareerhub.ufl.edu events, UF Performing Arts, the College of the Arts calendar
UCFevents.ucf.edu
FSUcalendar.fsu.edu, the College of Music events page
UGAcalendar.uga.edu, the UGA Performing Arts Center, Recreational Sports
Georgia Southerncalendar.georgiasouthern.edu, Campus Recreation

3. Follow the places, not just the people

Venues, rec centers, career centers and student unions post their own schedules, usually for the whole semester. If you find one weekly thing you like, like a trivia night, a dance social or a yoga class, you have a plan every week.

4. Go to things alone (once)

Weeknight campus events are some of the easiest places to meet people. Everyone there already has something in common with you. Workshops, game nights, rec classes and club events are all built for showing up solo. On TONIGHT, events good for meeting people are tagged so they're easy to spot.

5. Make it a group thing

Once you have friends to go with, coordinating is the hard part:

  • Add friends on TONIGHT and see where they're going: only the plans they choose to share, never their location.
  • Share an event link. Every event on TONIGHT has a link that opens a clean preview, even for friends who don't have an account.
  • Start a vote with "What's the move?" when the group can't decide.

Campus guides

Your night starts with TONIGHT

TONIGHT is a live campus board for 13 colleges in Florida and Georgia. It shows what's happening right now and later tonight: shows, games, free campus events, food deals, fitness and nights out. Every listing has the time, the place and a link back to where it came from.

  • See what's on right now. Filter by "go out", "meet people", "free" or the hour, and see what's starting soon.
  • See where your friends are going. Add friends and see the plans they choose to share. Never their location.
  • Know before you go. People who are there can post how busy it is, the line, the cover and the music.
  • Decide together. "What's the move?" lets your group chat vote on where to go.

Browsing is free and needs no account. Students with a verified school email can post their own events.
